iOS 26 is official: Apple changes from version numbers to years for its OS names

Apple will switch to a year-based numbering system for its operating systems. Starting in 2026, the names will change to iOS 26, iPadOS 26, MacOS Tahoe 26, WatchOS 26 and TVOS 26. Future Mac operating systems will retain their California nature theme names
